Brethren-
I am sure most of you by now have heard the very sad news of the passing of Br. William M. Roosevelt, III, P.M.. Our Brother laid down his working tools this past Friday. Besides being a true leader in our Lodge (he served as W.M. in 2001, 2002 & 2010), he was also a Sr. Instructor of the Ritualistic Work in District 36 and is renowned for the number of times he conferred the Master Mason Degree. I believe it was in excess of 400 and many of our members and members outside our Lodge can say Br. Bill made them a Master Mason. He has joined several other Lodge icons in that Spiritual Temple, that House not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens. Viewing for Br. Bill will be held this Thursday, September 1st from 6p-8p at the Griffith Funeral Home, 520 Chester Pike in Norwood, PA. The Masonic Service will be held at 7p with our own Br. Norman Phillips, P.M. presiding as Master. Participating Masons are encouraged to arrive by 6:45p as we are expecting a large contingent of Brethren in attendance. Our Brother will be laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill on September 2nd after the Funeral Service at 10a. Please contact me with any questions.
I also wanted to let the Brethren know of the passing of Br. Jim Biddle. Br. Biddle was not a member of 529, but was very well known to many of our Brethren, especially those involved with the Westinghouse Square Club. Br. Biddle requested no service.
As we continue to deal with the fire at the Chestnut Hill building, Mitchell Lodge No. 81 will be meeting on Thursday, September 8th at the Jenkintown Masonic Temple, 443 Old York Rd. Several of you have indicated you would like to attend and support our Brothers which is very appreciated. If you would like to go with us, please let me know. They generally eat dinner at 6:30p and their meeting starts at 7:30p.
Our September Lodge Notice will be going out by email early this week. As a reminder, we will have Instruction on Monday, September 10th at 7p in Renaissance Hall. Our Stated Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:30p in Renaissance Hall. Dinner will be at Maggiano’s at 5:30p. I need all Brethren and prospects attending to please let me know for the reservation and as a reminder, the copay for dinner will be $15 and $5 for the parking ticket excluding guests and prospects. We will be opening Lodge on the Entered Apprentice Degree so our 6 new EA’s will be able to attend. We will have 3 new petitions to read. This will be Jr. Warden’s Night with Br. Herman presiding and he arranged for a speaker for the meeting. Please come out and support our Jr. Warden. We will be making the formal motion to approve the merger of Equity Lodge No. 591 into St. Alban Lodge No. 529. The motion will be held over for one month with the vote taken in October. You must attend this meeting if you wish to vote as voting by proxy is not permitted.
We will be having Extra Meetings on September 19th and 26th at which time we will be conferring the FC Degree (3 each night). Dinner will be at Maggiano’s at 5:30p and the meetings will start at 7:30p Dinner and parking are free for Extra Meetings
I am very pleased to announce that Br. Ron Crockett, Pursuivant, has been approved to receive the Master Builder Award. Br. Ron will be presented with his Master Builder Award by our District Deputy when he visits our Lodge in October. How are our other newer Master Masons doing with applying for your Master Builder Award? Please let us know if you need assistance! Details are attached.
We have a unique volunteer opportunity that has been put before us. The next Masonic Baby Shower for military families is being held on October 30th at our Masonic Temple on Broad St. Typically, it is held at Joint Base Mcguire- Ft. Dix in NJ. The R.W.G.M., Br. Jeffrey Wonderling, will be in attendance and I believe there will be over 40 couples there receiving thousands of dollars of needed newborn supplies all donated by the Grand Lodge of PA courtesy of the Help for the Heroes program. These are amazing events and our DDGM has asked the District to assist with volunteers. On October 29th, they will need assistance with wrapping gifts and on the 30th, we will be needed for registration, escorting the couples through the Temple and bringing out their gifts. I already have at least 8 volunteers secured working one day or the other. Please let me know if you are available. You are requested to wear a Masonic shirt or hat.
Since we need these polos now, I will be placing an order this week for additional polo shirts, so if you have not already requested an embroidered Lodge 529 polo shirt, please let me know. I need to know size, color (blue/ white) and whether you would like your name embroidered as well. I believe the cost is $19 with a nominal additional cost for sizes greater than XL.
Finally, The International Gathering of Lodges Named St. Alban is fast approaching. Dates are September 30th – October 2nd in Bristol, R.I.. I have again attached the registration form and I need to know who will be attending so we can arrange transportation.
2023 dues notices are out. Registration and online payment instructions are attached.
I apologize for the length of this message, but as we get back to work, we have much going on. Hope to see you at Br. Bill’s Masonic Service this Thursday.
Frats- Jim
